At Malkara School we acknowledge the traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and play, Ngunnawal land. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's continuing connection to the land, water and community.
Did you know that Malkara School has a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)?
What is a RAP?
A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal commitment to reconciliation. It documents how our school will strengthen relationships, show respect, and provide opportunities for reconciliation in the classroom, around the school and with the community.
Why have a RAP?
RAPs provide a structured journey that supports an organisations growth towards reconciliation. It fosters respectful engagement with First Nation stakeholders while promoting accountability and awareness within an organisation.
Our RAP Vision
Malkara School is committed to reconciliation by creating a school where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and cultures are taught, celebrated, and respected.
Our goals include:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students see themselves, their identities and their cultures reflected in the curriculum, as well as in their day-to-day school life.
- All students are given the opportunity to appreciate, acknowledge and respect the world’s oldest continuous living culture, and through this, engage in reconciliation.
Malkara staff work together as an inclusive, respectful community to ensure all voices are heard and respected as we move towards reconciliation by:
- Acknowledging and embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and perspectives throughout our teaching and learning, in a culturally safe and respectful manner.
- Continuing to work in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, children, educators, and community members to provide opportunities for them to share their knowledge and cultures across our school.
